Ruben James Cubbage was born on September 25, 1948, in rural Libertyville, IA, the son of Gene and Ruth (Tensing) Cubbage. He attended school in Fairfield, graduating with the Fairfield High School Class of 1966. Shortly after graduation Jim was drafted into the United States Army where he proudly served his country during Vietnam. Upon his honorable discharge he returned home where he married the love of his life, Pamela McIntire. The two began their journey as husband and wife on July 18, 1970, in Fairfield, IA. This began a union that lasted over 55 years. Together they became the loving parents of two boys, Clay and Rob.
Jim worked at Winfrey Electric for several years before beginning his work as an electrician for Burlington Northern Railroad. He eventually began a career with Airgas where he was a dedicated employee for many years and became the branch manager until his retirement in 2013. He was also a member of the American Legion and served for many years on the Fell Cemetery Board.
Jim was someone who loved the outdoors and farming. He was always willing to help his neighbors. He enjoyed raising cattle with the help of his faithful Blue Healer dogs, even if they became a little spoiled and more like family. As the years passed his favorite thing to do was get in his Ranger and go for a drive around the farm, often with Pamela by his side. They found comfort being near home and he was proud to have raised his family on the farm. He was a loving husband, father, grandfather, and friendly neighbor who will be deeply missed.
Jim was preceded in death by his parents.
Left to honor his memory are his loving wife, Pamela Cubbage of rural Batavia; two sons, Clay (Carla) Cubbage of Cedar Rapids, IA and Rob (Kelly) Cubbage of Bettendorf, IA; four grandchildren, Chase, Reese, Madison, and James; a sister, Earla Jean (Glenn) Tedrow of Fairfield, IA, as well as many extended family and friends.
