Rachel Julianna Howell, 102, passed away December 29, 2022, at Parkview Care Center.

Open visitation for family and friends will be 8:30 a.m. to 4:00 p.m., Tuesday, January 3, 2023, at Behner Funeral Home. No family will be present.

Graveside service will be 11:00 a.m., Wednesday, January 4, 2023, at Glasgow Cemetery with Pastor Mike Metz officiating.

Rachel was born March 29, 1920, on the family farm in Henry County to Otto and Elsie (McClaughry) Riepe. She married Thomas Howell at home in Mt. Pleasant on June 1, 1947. They were married 63 years before Tom passed away on March 4, 2011.

Rachel graduated from Iowa Wesleyan University and taught for 38 years 1st Grade at Lockridge School. She was a member of the First United Methodist Church in Fairfield and Iowa State Education Association. Rachel and Tom enjoyed traveling with one of their trips visiting Alaska.

Rachel will be missed by several Howell and Riepe nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Otto and Elsie; husband, Tom; her siblings, Albert Riepe, Wilmer Riepe, Ora Riepe and Lorena Housel.
