Ralph E. Smith

Ralph E. Smith, 84, of Fairfield, died Monday, March 23, 2009, at Jefferson County Hospital in Fairfield.

Funeral services will be at 10:30 a.m. Thursday, March 26, at Hope Lutheran Church in Germanville with the Rev. Scott Bieker officiating. Burial will follow in Hope Lutheran Cemetery in Germanville. Visitation will be from 6:30 to 8 p.m. Wednesday at Behner Funeral Home in Fairfield with the family present. The family requests that memorials in lieu of flowers be made to Hope Lutheran Church.

Mr. Smith was born Nov. 12, 1924, in Lockridge, the son of James B. and Mary (Coady) Smith. He married Evelyn Rebling on July 13, 1947.

He lived all of his life in Jefferson County and was a farmer for most of his life. He was a member of Hope Lutheran Church in Germanville.

Surviving are his wife; one son, Harold Smith and wife Colleen of Fairfield; two grandchildren; three great-grandchildren; and one sister, Doris McCarty and husband Don of Salem.

He was preceded in death by his parents; one son, Doug Smith; two brothers, Bernard Smith and Leonard Smith; and one sister, Kathryn Gilson.
