Ralph W. Cain
Ralph Willis Cain, 89, of Marshalltown and formerly of Winfield, died Saturday, Sept. 15, at the Veterans Home at Marshalltown.
A graveside ceremony will be held at 1 p.m. Thursday, Sept. 20, at the Winfield-Scott Township Cemetery at Winfield, officiated by Rev. Paul Prescott.
The family and friends will gather for a lunch and visiting at the First Presbyterian Church fellowship hall at Winfield following the graveside service.
The Honts Funeral Home at Winfield is providing the care and arrangements.
The son of John Jack and Cora Bell Gilbert Cain, he was born Sept. 18, 1917 in Carroll County, Missouri. He married Dorthy May McBee on June 22, 1943 at Chillicothe, Mo.
Ralph was a WW II Army veteran, having served with the military police in Alaska. In his early years he had farmed with his dad and was a school custodian at Winfield; he later worked for a feed and grain business.
He was a member of the Church of Christ at Marshalltown and had been a member of the American Legion at Winfield. He had loved to hunt and always enjoyed family reunions. While residing at the Veterans Home, he enjoyed feeding the squirrels.
Ralph is survived by two granddaughters. He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife; his daughter, Judy Stromer; and a sister, Wilma Munger.
