Raymond E. “Skeeter” Davis, 62, of Mt. Pleasant passed away on Saturday, October 15, 2022, at the University of Iowa Hospitals and Clinics.

Skeeter was born on September 11, 1960, at Wapello, the son of Raymond and Dorothy (McCuen) Davis Sr. He was united in marriage to Marsha Abbey in 1979. He later married Claudia Thornton on March 6, 1992, in Wapello. Skeeter was an excellent cabinet maker and woodworker. He owned and operated his own business Davis Construction before going to work for Jean Wiley and Sons Construction of Mt. Pleasant. He enjoyed deer hunting, mushrooming, shooting guns, an occasional sip of whiskey and riding his Harley.

Skeeter is survived by his wife, Claudia Davis; his son, Shane Davis; his godson, Tanner James Smith; his special friends, Becky and Bobbie Norton and their children, Sami Westercamp and Mike Norton; and his brothers and sisters, Jack West, Earl Davis, Sandra Jean Fugate, Sandra Picken and Linda Harwood.

He was preceded in death by his parents; four brothers, Russell “Buddy” West, Richard “Dick” West, Charlie Davis and Ronnie Davis; and two sisters, Shelly Singleton and Kelly Copey.

Friends may call after 2 p.m. on Friday, October 21, 2022, at the Murphy Funeral Home in Mt. Pleasant, where the family will be present from 4 to 7 p.m. that evening. Cremation will follow the visitation. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests memorials may be directed to Becky Norton for the welfare of Skeeter’s son, Shane.
