Raymond Eugene McNeese, 89, of West Burlington, Iowa, passed away peacefully on Thursday, December 12, 2024, at his home. Born on May 12, 1935 in Fairfield, Iowa. He brought warmth, kindness, and a quiet strength to all who knew him. The son of Harold and Gladys (Barnatt) McNeese, Raymond grew up valuing family above all else. On April 23, 1960, he married his beloved partner in life, Letitia Ellen Hay, in Fairfield, Iowa. Their union was a testament to enduring love, and together they raised two daughters who were always guided by their father’s gentle heart and steady hand.

He was a man of Christian faith, whose kindness radiated through his every action. He loved his wife, Letitia, dearly and cherished his two daughters, Vicki Rawlings and Debra (Dale) Sutton, with the deepest devotion. To his grandchildren, he was more than a grandfather—he was a guiding presence, much like a father, offering stability and endless affection. Raymond took heartfelt pride in witnessing his family grow, celebrating six grandchildren—Aaron (Andrea) Rawlings, Adam (Casey) Rawlings, Lynette (Bradley) Grimm, Tyler (Abby) Hagerla, Mallory Rawlings-Wirt, and Coleton (Becca) Sutton—and welcoming 16 great-grandchildren and two great-great-grandchildren into the world.

In addition to Tish, he is survived by his sister, Karol Leazer, who, like so many others, knew him as a kind soul who lived by the values he quietly upheld. He was preceded in death by his parents, his sister Ruth Norton, and brothers-in-law Leron Leazer and Max Norton, and nephew Roger Leazer.

Raymond dedicated much of his working years to Vic Raider, Precast Concrete and later ABC Fire Extinguisher. Yet, his contributions to the community went far beyond his vocation. He proudly served as a member of the West Burlington Fire Department, was actively involved with the Eagles Aerie #150, and the Moose Lodge. Ray and Tish developed a hobby of antiquing, belonging to the Aladdin Knight Antique Collectors, and even started the business Good Time Antiques.

Ray leaves behind a legacy of love, generosity, and service—a reminder to cherish family, honor tradition, and greet each day’s challenges with understanding and grace.

Visitation was held from 11:00 a.m. until 12:00 p.m. Monday, December 16 at Lunning Chapel where the family will receive friends. A memorial service was held at 12:00 p.m. followed by ceremonial rites conducted by the Southeast Iowa Regional Fire Honor Guard. Burial will be held at a later date in Greenwood Cemetery, West Burlington.

According to his wishes, cremation has been accorded and entrusted to the care of Lunning Chapel.
