Raymond O. Bonser Jr., 87, of Alta Loma, passed away at his home surrounded by his loving family. He has gone to be with the love of his life, Patty.
Beloved husband, father, grandfather and great-grandfather, Ray was born in Mt. Pleasant to Raymond and Hazel Bonser. Ray graduated from Mt. Pleasant High School in 1953; was a Marine from 1954-57; and then graduated with his master’s from Kirksville Teacher College in 1961. He married Patty in August 1958 and was married for 58 years before her death in 2016. They had three children.
He moved his family to California in 1964 to start teaching at Chaffey High School, after four years at Central Lee High School in Donnellson, Iowa. In 1984 he transferred to Alta Loma High School and retired in 1994. He continued subbing until 2019. Along with teaching, Ray enjoyed ventures in real estate.
Ray and Patty enjoyed traveling, visiting family and friends, but their great joy was watching their children and grandchildren’s sporting and musical events.
Ray was preceded in death by his wife, Patty; and his parents, Raymond and Hazel.
He is survived by his children, Cindy (Kent) Gurney, Lisa (Doug) Baughman and Jeff (Kelly) Bonser; brothers, Jerry and Rick Bonser; his eight grandkids, Josh, Philip, Jeffrey, Carissa, Brad, Drew, Colby and Emily; and his eight great-grandkids.
There will be a viewing and rosary at 10 a.m., followed by a Mass at 11 a.m. March 20, at St. Peter and St. Paul Catholic Church, 9135 Banyan St., Alta Loma.
