Richard A. Nihart December 11, 1924 - September 3, 2003

      Richard Allen (Dick) Nihart, 78, of Des Moines and formerly of Mt. Pleasant, died Sept. 3, 2003 after a long illness.

      Funeral services will be Saturday, Sept. 6 at 2 p.m. at the United Methodist Church in Washington with the Rev. Mark Young officiating. Burial will be in the Hillcrest Cemetery in Brighton. Visitation will begin at noon on Friday, Sept. 5 at the Jones Eden Funeral Home in Washington with family present from 7 to 9 p.m. A Masonic Lodge service will be at 7 p.m. Friday at the funeral home. Memorials have been established for the United Methodist Church and Hospice of Iowa.

      Survivors include two daughters, Mary Ann Nihart of Pacifica, Calif. and Karen Thompson of Ankeny; a sister Martha Albers of Trenton; a half-brother, John Nihart of Lincoln, Neb.; and three grandchildren.

      He was preceded in death by his parents, wife, a sister, Neva Pauline Jeffrey and a brother, Robert Ellis Nihart.
