Dick was born on July 6, 1945, in Carroll, Iowa, to Freddie Charlie Hansen and Phyllis Jean (Fiser) Hansen. He was raised in Victor and graduated from HLV High School with the Class of 1963.
In 1964, Dick married Linda Kasal and to that union their daughter, Sherry Lynn was born. They later divorced.
In 1974, Dick founded Hansen Construction, where he worked tirelessly for decades, alongside his dedicated employees, until his retirement in 2022. Dick and his employees were known for their skill, dedication, and quality workmanship. They completed countless concrete projects throughout the area, earning the respect of his customers and community.
On February 8, 1975, Dick was united in marriage to Diana Roberts at St. John’s Lutheran Church, south of Victor. Together they made their home in rural Victor and were blessed with two children, Chadwick Freddie and Erica Renee.
Faith was central in Dick’s life. He was a longtime member of St. John’s Lutheran Church, where he served as trustee, Sunday school teacher, and Sunday school superintendent.
Beyond his work and church, Dick enjoyed the outdoors. He loved fishing, coon and rabbit hunting, trapping, reading newspapers and outdoor magazines, the Orioles, and the Iowa State Fair (last attending Saturday, August 16, 2025). He took great joy in riding his John Deere Gator around his property and pond. He continually strived to improve the wildlife habitat and happily shared his farm pond with others. Of all his roles, none was more cherished than being “Grandpa.” His greatest joy was time spent with his grandchildren, and mentoring other children too numerous to count.
Dick is survived by his wife of 50 and a half years, Diana Hansen of Victor; his daughters, Sherry (Richard) Hansen-Hass of Grinnell and Erica Hansen of West Palm Beach, Florida; his grandchildren, Sarah (Megan) McNulty, Kaitlyn Hansen, Brianna Newton, Cody Holston and Chasen Holston; his great-grandchildren, Freya, Rhiannon, and Archer McNulty; his sister, Dolores “Dee” Wilder (Paul Martell) of Tallahassee, Florida, Doug (Dixie) Hansen of Grinnell, Dan Hansen of Ecuador, Greg Hansen of Guernsey, Gary (Brenda) Hansen of Victor and Geoff Hansen of Des Moines. He was preceded in death by his parents; his son, Chad Hansen in 2002; and his brother, Dale Hansen in 1974.
