Richard 'Dick' Oldt, 79, of Oakland Mills died at 4:45 p.m. Friday, Feb. 25, 2000, at the Mercy Hospital in Iowa City.
The funeral service will be at 10:30 a.m., Tuesday, Feb. 29, at the Beatty Funeral Home in Mt. Pleasant with the Rev. Don Coffin and the Rev. Steve Prickett officiating. Interment will be in the Oakland Mills Cemetery. Visitation was from 9 a.m. to 8 p.m. today at the Beatty Funeral Home with family present from 6:30 to 8 p.m. this evening. Memorials have been established to the Oakland Mills Cemetery and the Cedar Creek Friends Church.
Mr. Oldt was born Sept. 15, 1920, in Oakland Mills, the son of Fred and Eva Arnold Oldt. He married Pauline Breazeale on Oct. 24, 1942. He spent his life farming in the Oakland Mills community and served on the Oakland Mills school board. He was active in the Oakland Mills Community Church and the Cedar Creek Friends Church. He served nine years as county committeeman for ASCS, now known as the Farm Service Agency. He served two terms as committeeman for the Farmers Home Administration. He spent several years as a Tippecanoe Township Clerk. He enjoyed his farming, working in the timber and working at his sawmill. He and his family enjoyed the Salem Saddle Club for several years.
Survivors include his wife; one son, Gary Oldt of Mt. Pleasant; three daughters, Sharon Oldt of Oelwein, Janet Butterfield of Geneseo, Ill., and Thea Carufel of Mesa, Ariz.; one brother, Willis Oldt of Indianola; two sisters, Winifred Cline of Bettendorf and Miriam Winter of Burlington; six grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents; and a sister.
