Richard E. 'Deacon' Warning
Richard E. "Deacon" Warning, 75, of Salem died at 5:40 p.m. Wednesday, May 17, 2000, at the Mapleleaf Healthcare Center in Mt. Pleasant, where he had resided since April 11.
The funeral service will be at 10 a.m. Saturday, May 20, at the Salem Friends Church with the Rev. Tom Palmer officiating. Burial with military rites in charge of the Simkin-Pidgeon Post will be in the Maple Grove Cemetery in Cantril. Open visitation will begin at 2 p.m. Friday, May 19 at the Pedrick Funeral Home in Keosauqua with family present from 7 to 8 p.m. Friday evening. Memorials may be left at the funeral home.
Mr. Warning was born June 8, 1924, in Cantril, the son of Earl and Winnie Fischer Warning. He married Gracie Sprouse on July 19, 1946 in Kahoka, Mo. He graduated from Cantril High School and served in the U.S. Navy during World War II. He was employed as a heavy equipment operator and as a mechanic in road construction. He lived at several locations in Iowa, including Cedar Rapids, before moving to Salem in 1973. He was a member of the Simkin-Pidgeon Post No. 94 American Legion in Salem and the Operating Engineers Union. He also served as mayor in Salem.
Survivors include his wife; and one sister, Pat Helsel of Tucson, Ariz. He was preceded in death by his parents.
