Richard L. Ulin, age 83, passed away peacefully at his home on Sunday, April 13, 2025, following a decline in health.
Funeral Services will be held at 10:00 a.m. on Thursday, April 17, 2025, at the United Methodist Church, with Pastor Anthony DeVaughn officiating. Interment with military honors will follow at Bethel Cemetery in rural Sigourney, Iowa. Calling hours will begin at 2:00 p.m. on Wednesday, April 16, 2025, at the Jones & Eden Funeral Home, where the family will be present to receive friends from 5:00 until 7:00 p.m. A memorial has been established for the Washington Athletic Booster Club. Richard was born on January 10, 1942, in Ottumwa, Iowa, to Leroy and Nettie (Vittetoe) Ulin. He graduated from Sigourney High School in 1961, where he was known for providing halftime entertainment with his trampoline exhibition at school events. Richard excelled in track and ran at the Drake Relays while in high school. After graduating, he served honorably in the United States Air Force from 1961 until 1965. On May 31, 1968, Richard married Eileen Hinnah at Bethel United Methodist Church in Sigourney.
For over 30 years, Richard worked as a skilled machinist at Crane Valve Company in Washington, Iowa, where he formed close relationships with his coworkers. He enjoyed working on old cars, watching football with his dog, Wiggles, and going to his grandsons’ games. Richard was also an avid Iowa Hawkeye fan and devoted member of the United Methodist Church in Washington.
Richard is survived by his wife, Eileen, and their three sons: Michael (Wendi) Ulin of Washington, Iowa; Chad Ulin of Hiawatha, Iowa; and Greg of Cedar Rapids, Iowa. He is also survived by his grandchildren, Seth (Kinsley) Ulin of Tennessee, and Aidan and Alec Ulin of Washington, Iowa; his brother, Jearold Ulin of Oklahoma; and his sister, Nancy Weber of Sigourney, Iowa.
Richard was preceded in death by his parents; his daughter, Katy; his sisters, Jeanette Adams and Shirley Watson; and his brother, Roger Ulin.
