RICHARD LEE "RICK" CRONE
Cedar Rapids
Richard Lee "Rick" Crone, 76, of Cedar Rapids, Iowa, formerly of Washington, Iowa, died Thursday, March 24, 2022, at the Mercy Hospice House in Hiawatha, Iowa.
The family will be present at the Jones & Eden Funeral Home to celebrate Rick's life on Saturday, April 2, 2022, from 10:30 a.m. until 12:30 p.m. with Celebration of Life services at noon. The family will hold private graveside services with military honors conducted by Washington American Legion Post 29 at 1 p.m. at the Elm Grove Cemetery in Washington. In lieu of flowers, memorials have been established for the Mayo Clinic for cancer research. Online condolences may be sent for Rick's family through the web at www.jonesfh.com.
A Cardinals and Packers assistant coach (from the comfort of his home), United States Air-Force Vet, avid fisherman, skilled bowler, lover of Legos, and teller of stories and jokes, continued to find humor until the end of his battle with cancer.
Rick was born July 14, 1945, and raised in Washington, Iowa where he graduated from Washington High School, served his country as radar technician in the United States Air-Force, employed 50 years with Sitler's Electric, enjoyed summers at the cabin he built along the Iowa River, and loved retirement with his wife Nettee on fishing trips to Minnesota and warm winters in Florida.
He leaves behind a family that loved him every day and will now miss him every day: his wife, Lanette "Nettee" of Cedar Rapids, Iowa; his daughters, Traci (Todd) Havel of Altoona, Iowa, and Heidi (Andy) Link of O'Fallon, Missouri; step-sons, Christopher (Amy) Pultz of Anamosa, Iowa, and Eric Pultz of Cedar Rapids, Iowa; nine grandchildren; brother, Tod (Cheryl) Crone of Washington, Iowa; sister, Janet Crawford (late husband Dwaine) of Washington, Iowa; and eight nephews and nieces. He always found humor and had special patience with the younger kids, whether it was teaching them how to bait a hook or count their cribbage hand.
He is preceded in death by his parents, Charles and Wilma (Brinning) Crone of Washington, Iowa; brother-in-law, Dwaine Crawford; nephews, Ronnie Crawford and Russ Crone; niece, Nancy Crawford; and great-niece, Kylie Crawford.
And now for two pieces of advice we know he would want us to share: one, the only thing we need to worry about is if the Cardinals will have a good left-handed pitcher, and two, if anyone gives you the option to choose cancer or ice cream, pick ice cream. We love you, Rick-Husband, Son, Brother, Dad, Uncle, Grandpa and Friend.
