Richard "Dick" Max Stewart, 81, of Peoria, Ariz., formerly of West Chester, Iowa, passed peacefully on Sunday, Aug. 15, 2021, surrounded by his family.
Celebration of Life services will be held at a later date. Memorials have been established for the West Chester United Methodist Church in West Chester, Iowa. Richard was born on Sept. 19, 1939, in Washington, Iowa, the son of Norman Keith and Helen Mae (Niffenegger) Stewart. He graduated from West Chester High School in 1957 and American Institute of Business in Des Moines in 1959. On Aug. 26, 1962, Richard was united in marriage to Bonita Mae Herr at Keota United Methodist Church in Keota, Iowa. Richard and Bonnie lived in Iowa with their four children until moving to Phoenix, Ariz., in 1989. His wife, Bonnie, preceded him in death on Nov. 23, 2018.
During his years in Iowa, Richard farmed and raised livestock. He was an active member in the West Chester United Methodist Church in West Chester, Iowa. Upon moving to Arizona Richard worked for Stewart Transport and enjoyed working with his son, Collin, owner of Stewart Transport, Inc. Richard's favorite pastimes were anything involving his family, including attending his children and grandchildren's activities.
Richard is survived by his children: daughter, Dedre Stewart-Alliger; daughter, Nicholle Stewart; daughter, Shawna (Walter) Jones; son, Collin (Laura) Stewart, all of Phoenix, Ariz.; and grandchildren, Caleb (fiancee, Ashlie Draper) Alliger, Courtney Alliger, Calli, Emily and Max Stewart, and Tiffany, Erika and Madison Jones. He is also survived by his sister, Peggy Kindred of Minier, Ill.; brother-in-law and sister-in-law, Stanley and Jacquelyn Herr of Robins, Iowa; and seven nieces and nephews.
Richard was preceded in death by his parents and two brother-in-laws, Wendell Kindred and Russell Herr.
