Richard “Rick” Smith, 66, of Mount Pleasant, IA, passed away on September 2, 2024. Born on May 11, 1958, to Harry and Mona Smith, Rick was known for his warm heart and engaging sense of humor. A loyal St. Louis Cardinals fan, he enjoyed attending as many games as he could. A lifelong motorcycle rider, he loved to take a ride on his Honda Gold Wing. He was also one of his brother Tim’s biggest fans and would often accompany Tim to his music gigs, sharing a love and appreciation for live music. He was able to make one of his retirement dreams come true when he spent last winter down south in his RV.
Rick graduated from Mt. Pleasant Community High School in 1976. He had a lifelong career in the retail grocery industry, beginning in high school. He went on to work many years in grocery store management, followed by a few years as a Schwan’s route driver. During the last ten years before retirement, he became well known in the local area as the Little Debbie distributor who always took time to chat with people while making his various stops.
Rick was married to Mary Hammer and they had one child, Corinne Smith. They later divorced.
Rick is survived by Corinne of Silverdale, Washington; his grandson, Gavin Smith of Chesapeake, Virginia; his brother Timothy (Brenda) Smith of Mount Pleasant, Iowa; and nephew Steven (Leslie) Pressley Jr. of Henderson, North Carolina. He was preceded in death by his parents and his brother Steven Pressley.
Family, friends, and those whose lives were touched by Rick are invited to attend a Celebration of Life gathering which will be held on September 22, 2024, at 1:00 pm at the VFW in Mt. Pleasant, IA, where we will gather to reminisce and honor his memory. The family welcomes those who want to share a story or memory at the event to do so. A light meal will be served, catered by Fat Jimmy’s, one of Rick’s favorite places to eat and enjoy Tim’s music. Rick’s life, marked by dedication and warmth, leaves a lasting imprint in the hearts of all who knew him.
