Rich Riggan was born on March 30, 1939, to Henry and Amanda (Seering) Riggan in Iowa City, Iowa. He graduated from Lone Tree High School. Rich lived a life marked by kindness, generosity, and unwavering devotion to those he loved. A proud United States Air Force veteran, Rich served his country with honor and carried that same spirit of service into every aspect of his life.
Rich married the love of his life, Lois Mincer, on April 13, 1963, at the Methodist Church in Lone Tree. He dedicated his life to the land, farming in the Riverside and Ainsworth areas for over 60 years. Rich found joy in music, dancing, golfing, traveling, refurbishing antique John Deere tractors, and participating in tractor parades. He loved playing with his kids, grandkids, and great-grandkids, as his philosophy was, “You might have to grow old, but that doesn’t mean you can’t still be a kid at heart.”
Over the years, Rich was a member of the Washington County Pork Producers Association; the Ainsworth Co-op, serving as president for two years; Ainsworth Lion’s Club, serving as president one year; the Masonic Lodge in Lone Tree, serving as Grand Master; and the Highland Community School Board, including serving as board president. He was also a member of the former Shirts and Skirts Square Dance Club and the Wayland Tractor Club. Rich delivered motor homes and school buses across the country. He traveled to every state in the nation and throughout the world.
Rich will be greatly missed and forever remembered. He is survived by his loving wife of 62 years, Lois Riggan of Ainsworth, Iowa; children, Richard (Janet) Riggan of Ainsworth, Iowa, Laurisa (Keith) Jackson of Elkhorn, Nebraska, and Lavinia (Tracy) Horton of Muscatine, Iowa; 10 grandchildren: Erica (Jeremy) Greiner, Austin (Shelby) Riggan, Allyson (Jeff) Ziegenhorn, James, Brandyn, and Emma Beemblossom, Colton Horton, and Olivia, Isabelle, and Blake Jackson; and eight great-grandchildren: Elaina, Amiyah, Jessa, and Jareck Greiner, Gracie and Grant Riggan, and John and Layla Beemblossom.
Rich is also survived by his siblings: Marcia (Melvin) Blakemore, Elizabeth (Gary) Droll, Virginia (Lonnie) Lee, Michael (Diane) Riggan, Sandra (Jack) Kleckner, and Kenneth (Jan) Riggan; sisters-in-law, Karma Riggan, Gayle Barnes, Sharon Riggan, Barbara Riggan, and Linda Riggan; and one brother-in-law, Gary (Kay) Mincer.
He was preceded in death by his parents; seven brothers: Earl, James, William, David, Larry, Lyle, and Ronald Riggan; and four sisters: Jeanette Riggan, Nancy Knebel, Carol Johnson, and Judith Pritchett.
