Richard Bernard Schmitt was born into life on Dec. 30, 1956, in Washington, Iowa, the son of Bernard and Arlene (Gevock) Schmitt. He attended St. James Catholic School and graduated from Washington High School in 1976. Richard was united in marriage to Traci Parker.
Richard grew up in Washington, Iowa, and was a member of St. James Catholic Church, where he was an appointed altar server. He was employed at Hy-Vee Food Store for the past 33 years. Richard enjoyed the simple pleasures of life by spending time with family and friends, "dinking" with projects around the home and enjoying the outdoors. He was a loving and dedicated husband, father, grandfather, brother and friend, and will be remembered by many as the kind, caring and hardworking man that he was.
Those left to cherish Richard's memory are his wife, Traci of 25 years; daughters, Amanda Frost and Katie Kreiner of Cedar Rapids, Iowa, and Samantha (Chase) Proctor; and grandchildren, Landon, Lilah and Lennox Proctor of Cadott, Wis.; siblings, Rose (Dave Neff) Bixby of Ainsworth, Iowa, Betty (Neil) Sedlacek of Cedar Rapids, Iowa, and Bonnie (Joe) Lins of Washington, Iowa; as well as several nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents and brother-in-law, Eugene Bixby.
