Richard W. Whipple

      Richard W. Whipple, 84, of Fairfield, formerly of the Batavia area, died Thursday, Jan. 24, 2008, at home.

      A funeral will be at 10:30 a.m. Monday at Faith United Methodist Church in Libertyville, with the Rev. Michael Renken officiating. Military rites will be conducted by O.B. Nelson American Legion Post No. 3 and Walter B. Schafer Veterans of Foreign Wars Post No. 775 of Ottumwa. Cremation will follow the service, with inurnment at a later date in Memorial Lawn Cemetery in Ottumwa.

      Open visitation will begin at noon Sunday at Kremer Funeral Chapel in Batavia, with the family present from 5-7 p.m.

      Memorials may be directed to Faith United Methodist Church or Hospice of Central Iowa.

      Mr. Whipple was born July 30, 1923, in Wapello County, the son of Wayne and Addie Rill Whipple. He married E. Maxine Payne June 8, 1946, in Bladensburg.
