Born Nov. 26, 1923, in Mount Pleasant, Iowa, Richard Lee was the son of Albert and Ella (Anderson) Woline. After graduating from Mount Pleasant High School in 1940, Richard served in the U.S. Army in Italy during World War II. After his military service, Richard returned to Mount Pleasant where he met Elnora Belle Myers. They were married May 27, 1949. Together they began a life-long career of farming in Jefferson, Lee and Henry counties.
Richard served on many boards and committees including school, church, Farm Bureau, Production Credit Association, Food Resource Bank and Henry County Soil Conservation Service. In 1979, Richard was named an Iowa Master Pork Producer. He was a school board member and helped establish Central Lee School. A member of the Swedesburg Evangelical Lutheran Church and the Olds American Legion, Richard also was a leader for Habitat for Humanity projects. He was a big believer of being a helpful neighbor. Grandchildren and family were very important to Richard. He had a passion for gardening and his prized blueberry patch.
Survivors include four sons, Robert (Trudy) Woline of Urbandale, Dennis (Cindi) Woline of Osceola, Allan (Jodi) Woline of Mount Pleasant and Wayne (Leah) Woline of Mount PleasantA; a foreign exchange "son" from Sweden, Sven-Olle Larson; 15 grandchildren; and 26 great-grandchildren.
Along with his parents and wife of 65 years, Richard was preceded in death by two brothers, Harold Woline and John Woline; three sisters, June Woline, Jean Woline and Ruby (Charles) King; a daughter-in-law, Theresa Woline; and a grandson, Jerod Woline.
The Woline family extends a special thanks to all the staff at Sunrise Terrace Care Center and EveryStep Hospice. They both showed genuine and loving care to Richard every day. Thank you, Pastor Mark Youngquist, for your many visits.
