Rick L. Walker, 43, of Frisco, Tex., formerly of Mt. Pleasant, died at 6:55 p.m. Thursday, Jan. 27, 2000, at Plano Medical Center in Plano, Tex., from cancer.
The funeral service will be at 10:30 a.m. Saturday, Feb. 5, at Weir Funeral Home in Mt. Pleasant with the Rev. Wayne Kamm and Rev. James Pickens officiating. Burial will be at 2 p.m. Saturday in the Memorial Lawn Cemetery, Hwy. 163 north in Ottumwa. Visitation began Friday, Feb. 4, at noon at the Weir Funeral Home with family present from 6:30 to 8 p.m. this evening. Memorials have been established to the American Cancer Society or a trust fund for his daughter's education.
Mr. Walker was born Aug. 2, 1956, in Ottumwa, the son of Bernard "Bernie" B. and Patricia "Pat" J. Chrisman Walker. He married Cindy L. Johnson on Oct. 7, 1989, in Dallas, Tex. He attended Franklin School in Ottumwa until 1965. He then moved to Des Moines, where he attended Monroe School until 1970. He graduated from Mt. Pleasant High School in 1974. He was a Laser Technician for GAMATA Corp. for 14 years in Tex. He owned and operated the OHMS Engineering Co. at Gunter, Tex. and W.W. Machine Services in Prosper, Tex. He traveled extensivey with his work to Czechoslovakia, England, Portugal, Canada, Korea, Italy, Switzerland, and the U.S. He was active in school sports and Boy Scouts in Des Moines. He was a member and Disciple of Christ at Davis St. Christian Church in Ottumwa.
Survivors include his parents of rural Mt. Pleasant; his wife of Frisco, Tex.; and two daughters, Katrina and Alisha Walker of Frisco, Tex. He was preceded in death by his paternal and maternal grandparents.
