RICKIE DEAN "RICK" FARRIER

Rickie Dean "Rick" Farrier peacefully passed away Thursday, Aug. 26, 2021, at Fairview Southdale Hospital, Edina, Minn., after a four-year battle with ALS. He and his wife Martha were visiting one of his favorite places, the Mall of America, when he became ill and was taken to the hospital.
Funeral services will be held 11 a.m. Wednesday, Sept. 1, at the Newman Center in Iowa City with Fr. Ed. Fitzpatrick officiating. Calling hours will begin at 3 p.m. Tuesday, Aug. 31, at the Jones & Eden Funeral Home in Washington, Iowa. The family will be present to receive friends from 5:30 p.m. to 7 p.m. Tuesday at the Jones & Eden Funeral Home and from 10 a.m. until 11 a.m. Wednesday at the Newman Center. Interment will take place at the Oregon Township Cemetery in Ainsworth, Iowa. In lieu of flowers, memorials have been established for the Newman Center in Iowa City. Rick was born February 5, 1957, in Washington, Iowa. He graduated from Washington High School in 1975. He married Martha Hunzinger October 11, 2013, at Newman Center, Iowa City IA.
He worked at the University of Iowa for 31 years, where he met the love of his life Martha; the Oaknoll Retirement Home for 15 years and several years at Schoonover Pharmacy.
Rick never met a stranger he didn't like and always had a positive attitude. He made many life-long friends because he was always more concerned about their day than his. He loved to travel, especially visiting his family in New Orleans. He loved the New Orleans Saints and anything else related to New Orleans. In addition to the Saints, Rick loved the Chicago Cubs and the Iowa Hawkeyes. He didn't miss a home Hawkeye football game for many years.
Rick Loved Martha, his cat Isabell and our Lord and Savior.
He loved the Iowa State Fair, especially the pork chops on a stick and the Varied Industries Building. He was an avid firefighter enthusiast and volunteered with the Ainsworth fire department for 20 years. He loved the music from Casting Crowns, Mercy Me and The Newman singers at his church.
He is survived by his loving wife, Martha; his beloved cat, Isabell; brothers, Don Goodwin and David Goodwin; a special cousin, Tammy (Mark) Meyer; cousin, Jim (Laurie) Melicher; nieces, Marissa Tallington and Jamie Goodwin; uncle, Ed (Carol) Melicher; and many cousins, brother-in-law and sisters-in-law, extended family and wonderful friends.
Rick was preceded in death by his parents, Lee and Thelma Farrier; cousin, Craig Goodwin; nephew, Paul Goodwin; sister-in-law, Bev Goodwin; uncle, Max; and aunt, Indiana Kepler.
