Ricky G. Smith

BRIGHTON ? Ricky G. Smith, 60, of Washington, died Tuesday, Oct. 6, 2015, at his home.

A graveside service will be held at 10:30 a.m., Friday, Oct. 9, at Hillcrest Cemetery in Brighton with the Rev. Rick Zickefoose officiating. The body has been cremated, and burial will follow the graveside service at the cemetery. General memorials may be brought to the service or mailed to Connie Shelangoski at 305 E. Madison Street, Brighton, IA 52540. Gould Funeral Home in Brighton is in charge of arrangements.

Mr. Smith was born March 31, 1955, in Iowa City, the son of Joseph Oliver and Ruth Ellen (Volger) Smith.

He grew up in Brighton and graduated from Washington High School in 1973. He lived in Brighton until moving to Washington in 1989. He worked at McCleery-Cumming Company in Washington for over 20 years until his health forced him to retire. He also worked part time at Hy-Vee and WCDC in Washington. He was an avid baseball player and loved to fish and hunt mushrooms.

Surviving are two sisters, Connie Shelangoski and husband Paul of Brighton, and Nancy Kelly of Brighton; and three brothers, Dennie Smith and wife Sandy of Washington, Jack Smith and wife Kathie of Washington, and Tim Smith and wife Mary of Brighton; and several nieces and nephews.
