Robert A. Freeman, 65, of Mt. Pleasant, formerly of Chicago, Ill. died at 4:10 a.m. Friday, Jan. 28, 2000, at the Mapleleaf Health Care Center.

The funeral service will be at 1 p.m. Tuesday, Feb. 1, at the Olson-Powell Memorial Chapel in Mt. Pleasant with the Rev. Jeff McPheron officiating. Visitation will be after noon Monday, Jan. 31 at Olson-Powell Memorial Chapel with family present from 6:30 to 8 p.m. Memorials have been established.

Mr. Freeman was born July 16, 1934, in Chicago, the son of Merlin C. and Theresa Zapfel Freeman. He married Donna Bockelman in 1954, in Chicago. He graduated from high school in Chicago in 1953. He was a Chicago firefighter from 1958-1978. He was assigned to Truck #19, followed by Truck #26. His final position with the Chicago Fire Department was with Engine #44, where he was a Battalion 18 driver for the fire chief. After retiring from the fire department, Mr. Freeman lived in Staten Island, N.Y., and Boulder City, Nev. He moved to Mt. Pleasant in 1996. He was of the Lutheran faith. His hobbies included listening to classical music and collecting fire fighting memorabilia.

Survivors include one son, Roger Freeman of Mt. Pleasant; two daughters, Donalee Matview of Las Vegas, Nev., and Debbie Freeman of Valparaiso, Ind.; one brother, Raymond Freeman of Englewood, Colo.; seven grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents and one grandchild.
