Robert Andrew “Rob” Gerdes, age 53, passed away Wednesday, February 19, 2025, at his home in Moultrie, Georgia.
A Celebration of Life will be held at a later date. Jones & Eden Funeral Home is assisting the family with arrangements. A general memorial has been established. Online condolences may be sent for Robert’s family at www.jonesfh.com.
Robert was born on September 8, 1971, the son of William Dean and Karla Kay (Needels) Gerdes in Maryville, Missouri.
Robert married Amy Nellermoe on September 3, 1994, in Fargo, North Dakota. One child was born to Robert and Amy – a daughter, Ashley Ann Gerdes.
The joy of Robert’s life was his granddaughter, Mila May Woodman. He was eagerly awaiting the birth of his second grandchild in March.
Robert graduated from Southern Regional Technical College (GA) with an Associate of Applied Science degree in 2021. He graduated Cum Laude from Valdosta State University (GA) in 2024 with a degree in Business Administration/Accounting. After his graduation, he worked as an accountant for Alert-Tech Systems, Inc. in Valdosta, Georgia. He had plans to transition to tax accounting and to move back to the Midwest to be closer to family.
Robert was an avid NFL fan. His favorite team was the Kansas City Chiefs which could be evidenced by the many Chiefs jerseys and T-shirts that he wore.
Robert will be missed by his daughter, Ashley (Ben) Woodman and their daughter, Mila of West Fargo, North Dakota; his father and stepmother, William (Linda) Gerdes of Washington, Iowa; brothers, Ben (Shannon) Schmille of Holton, Kansas, and Michael Schmille of Dearborn, Michigan; stepfather, Claude Schmille of Hiawatha, Kansas; stepsister, Erica (Grant) Venema of Geneseo, Illinois; and many aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews, and cousins.
He was preceded in death by his mother, Karla Schmille; grandparents, Harold and Joella Gerdes; and grandmother, Agnes Lucy.
