Robert C. Jewett, 85, of Norwich, passed away Friday afternoon, Oct. 10, 2008, at the New York State Veterans' Home in Oxford, N.Y.
The son of Cecile and Bertha Fetrow Jewett, Bob was born in Mt. Pleasant, Iowa, in March of 1923. He lived in Iowa through his childhood and attended the local schools, then left Iowa to serve his country during World War II in the U.S. Army Air Corps. He was stationed in Washington, D.C., where he served with the OSS. On May 20, 1944, in Garden City, L.I., N.Y., he married Roseann Craven.
By trade, Bob was a plumber. During his years living in New York State, he was a member of Plumbers and Pipefitters Union, Locals 691 and 112, of Binghamton. Bob was an avid snowmobiler and was a member of the NRA. While living in Norwich, he belonged to the Norwich Elks Lodge BPOE 1222, the Knickerbocker Golf Club, the South New Berlin Horseshoe Club, and the American Legion. For a time he had served as scoutmaster for Troop 64, Boy Scouts of America, and as a trustee of the pension fund of Local 691 Plumbers and Pipefitters Union.
