Robert L. Carson, 80, of 2815 Rohret Road, died Saturday, Feb. 5, 2000, in Mesa, Ariz., after a sudden illness.

The funeral service will be at 2 p.m. Saturday, Feb. 12, at the St. Andrew Presbyterian Church in Iowa City with the Rev. Mark Martin officiating. A memorial fund was established.

Mr. Carson was born Nov. 21, 1919, the son of Frank and Viola Michel Carson. He married Kathleen Amish on Oct. 19, 1944, in Iowa City. They farmed near Iowa City. He graduated from University High School in 1938. He was the director of the Johnson County Agricultural Stabilization and Conservation Service for the USDA until his retirement in 1982. He was a compliance supervisor in eastern Iowa for the Iowa State ASCS office. He was a past member of the Johnson County Conservation Board and served on the Sharon Mutual Insurance Board. He was a member of the Old Capitol Kiwanis.

Survivors include his wife; three sons, Tom Carson of Ames, Jim Carson of Mt. Pleasant, and Steve Carson of Iowa City; one daughter, Becky Albertson of Bettendorf; two brothers, Earl Carson of Edina, Minn. and John Carson of Walnut Creek, Calif.; one sister, Marilou Gay of Iowa City; and 10 grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents; a sister, Joyce Petty; and a brother, Edward.
