Robert H. Diers

Robert H. Diers, 73, of Wayland, died Thursday, May 8, at University of Iowa Hospitals and Clinics in Iowa City, following a lengthy illness.

A funeral service was held at 10 a.m. today, May 12, at Swedesburg Evangelical Lutheran Church in Swedesburg, with the Rev. Fran Griffeth and Bishop Philip L. Hougen officiating. Burial was at New Sweden Lutheran Cemetery near Lockridge.

Memorials have been established for Pulmonary Fibrosis Research at the University of Iowa, First Augustana Lutheran Church and diabetes education at the Henry County Health Center.

He was born Nov. 14, 1934 in Washington, the son of Harlan and Edith Graf Diers. On March 21, 1954, he married Mary Kathryn Sutton at Hope Lutheran Church in Brighton.
