Robert J. 'Bob' Peel
Robert J. "Bob" Peel, 62, of West Point, died at 7 a.m. Tuesday, Aug. 28, 2007 at his home.
His body has been donated to the University of Iowa anatomy department.
Friends may stop to sign the register and leave memorials from 12 noon-4 p.m. Friday, Aug. 31 at the Schmitz-Lynk Funeral Home in West Point.
Per his request there will be no funeral service. A graveside service will be held at a later date at Sacred Heart Cemetery in Fort Madison.
A memorial has been established. Contributions may also be mailed to the Schmitz-Lynk Funeral Home at PO Box 22, West Point, IA 52656.
Born May 17, 1945 at Fort Madison, Robert was the son of Albert and Edwina Kolz Peel. On Sept. 7, 1968 at West Point he married Connie Sue Huffman, who died Sept. 22, 1976. On Oct. 31, 1993 in Fort Madison, he married Kay Whittmore Wellman.
Bob was a 1963 graduate of Fort Madison High School. He served in the U. S. Army during Vietnam. He worked in maintenance at DuPont in Fort Madison. He volunteered at the Fort Madison Food Pantry, Fort Madison Community Hospital and the Emma Cornelius Hospitality House where he also served on the board. He was an avid NASCAR fan. He enjoyed traveling to visit his children and grandchildren and to Las Vegas.
Survivors include his wife, one son, Robert J. (Carman) Peel Jr. of College Park, Ga.; two daughters Christine (Ron) Richmond of Lincoln University, Pa., and Gena (Dave) Garcia of Loganville, Ga.; two grandchildren, three step-children including Tim Wellman of Des Moines, Lori Burke of Walker and Eric Wellman of Kansas City, Kan.; 13 step-grandchildren and one sister Marilyn (Grant) Besser of Kissimmee, Fla. He was preceded in death by his parents, first wife Connie and one daughter, Jeanice.
