Robert J. Duncan was born on June 21, 1932, in rural Columbus Junction, Iowa, the son of Harry M. and N. Evelyn (James) Duncan. He graduated from Columbus High School in 1950. He joined the military, serving in the U.S.M.C. from 1954 - 1957. On April 18, 1959, Bob married Maxine June Coss in Davenport, Iowa. They had one daughter, Cindy Jo. Bob belonged to the United Presbyterian Church in Columbus Junction for over 50 years. He started farming in 1960, and in 1966, became an Auctioneer, working at the Wapello Sale barn for over 20 years. As such, he presided over many household, farm and real estate auctions. Bob was a member of the Washington County Farm Bureau, National Quarter Horse Association, Masonic Lodge #107, and a lifetime member of the Marine Corps League, and the American Legion. He served as a director of Peoples National Bank in Columbus Junction, was on the Highland School Board, and the Town View Village board. Bob enjoyed early morning coffee group, and was an avid fan of Harness horse races. Bob and Cindy traveled to many races in the past year, and he knew how to pick the winners. Robert peacefully passed from life on April 16, 2022, at his farm home in rural Ainsworth, Iowa.

He is survived by his daughter, Cindy (Thomas) Messenger of Keota, IA, one grandson, Timothy (Casey) Duncan Messenger of Fairfield, IA, three brothers; William A. (Marion) of West Liberty, IA, Paul W. (Kay) of Columbus Junction, IA, and Larry J. (Judi) of Liberty, MO, and several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents, and his wife.

Memorials will be directed to the United Presbyterian Church of Columbus Junction or Hospice of Washington County.

Celebration of Life for Robert J. Duncan will be held Sunday June 19, 2022, in the youth building at the fairgrounds in Columbus Junction, IA. Visitation will begin at 1:00 p.m. with a small service at 2:30 p.m. Time for visiting with family and friends will follow the service.
