Robert J. Kobs July 29, 1924 - July 20, 2005

      Robert J. Kobs, 80, of Burlington, died at 8:53 a.m. Wednesday, July 20, 2005, at his home.

      The funeral service will be at 10:30 a.m. Friday, July 22 at Lunning Chapel in Burlington, with Pastor Maurice Moore officiating. Burial with military rites conducted by the Veterans Honor Guard of VFW Post 5166 of Wapello will be in Burlington Memorial Park Cemetery. Visitation will be from noon to 7 today at the chapel, with family present from 5 to 7 p.m. Memorials have been established to Sunnyside Avenue Baptist Church and Great River Hospice.

      Survivors include his wife; two sons, David J. Kobs of Denver, Ind., and Robert M. Kobs, of Burlington; two stepsons, Harold W. Miller of Davenport and Robert L. Miller of Bloomington, Ind.; four daughters, JoAnn Dill of Blandinsville, Ill., Linda M. Schmidt of Woodland Park, Colo., Kae C. Calfee of Loveland, Colo., and Christine Herman of Mt. Pleasant; two stepdaughters, Susan E. Kline of Mediapolis and Arlene Ann Hall of Burlington; a foster daughter, Mary Beth Anderson of New London; many grandchildren and great-grandchildren; three brothers, Edward J. Kobs of Burlington, Donald Kobs of Wayland, and James Kobs of Mt. Pleasant; and three sisters, Ruth Sullivan of Fallon, Nev., Dorothy Lott of Burlington, and Mary O'Neill of Marion.

      He was preceded in death by his parents and a son.
