ROBERT JOSEPH MORRISON
Montrose
Robert Joseph Morrison, 81, of rural Montrose, Iowa, passed away at his home at 1:20 p.m. Wednesday, August 26, 2020. He was born on December 28, 1938 in Morning Sun, IA, the son of Robert Emmett and Lela Mae Beck Morrison. He married Patricia L. Mefford on April 23, 1960 in Burlington, IA.
He worked for J.I. Case Company in the assembly repair department for 29 years, retiring in 1992.
He is survived by his wife, Patricia; two children, Theresa (Kerry) Kitterman of Selma, IA, and William Lee (Jodi) Morrison of Mount Pleasant; nephews, Bobby Garland and Larry Garland; niece, Judy Lanferman; 4 grandchildren, Michael Morrison, Kayla (Wayne) Pendell, Lindsey Morrison and Addison Morrison, all of Mount Pleasant; and one great-grandson, Carter Morrison-Swenka of Mount Pleasant.
He was preceded in death by a son, Joseph Alan Morrison; two sisters, Betty Mae Morrison and Nancy Rose Garland; one brother-in-law, Stephen Garland; one uncle, Joseph Beck; and one aunt, Mrs. LeRoy (Lillian Beck) Pinegar.
Early in their marriage, Bob and a friend, Terry Raines, used to go to gun shows in Aledo, Peoria, and other areas. Then, years later, Bob and Pat enjoyed traveling to various places in the U.S. and joined the Skiowans and spent several winters downhill skiing in Wisconsin, Colorado and Nevada. Bob enjoyed cannons and had several with one being a full sized King Howitzer which was part of the Wedding of the Wine and Cheese Festival in Nauvoo, IL. He has been a member of the Shooting Club near Montrose for some years. He was an avid flyer and had a runway strip and planes at the home in Henry County. Later he got into sailing on the Mississippi River and was a member of the Old Fort Yacht Club in Fort Madison. He enjoyed racing and received several trophies over the years. Later he became interested in antique wooden boats and Bob and Pat acquired a 1956 Milo Craft boat which they named "Lets Dance". They became members of the Antique and Classic Boat Association and exhibited the boat in several events, including the show at Fondalac, Lake Geneva, WI.
Friends may call after 2 p.m. Friday, August 28, 2020, with the family to receive friends from 4 to 6 p.m. Friday evening at King-Lynk Funeral Home & Crematory. Bob will be cremated following the visitation and a memorial service will be held at 10 a.m. Saturday, August 29, 2020, at King-Lynk Funeral Home & Crematory with Rev. Pete Hagglund officiating. A graveside service will be held at 1 p.m. Saturday afternoon at Oakland Mills Cemetery in Oakland Mills, IA.
