Robert L. Stanford October 17, 1934 - January 1, 2004

Robert LeRoy Stanford, 69, of Morning Sun, died of cancer on Thursday morning, Jan. 1, 2004, at his home.

      The funeral service will be at 1 p.m. on Monday, Jan. 5 at the United Methodist Church in Morning Sun, with the Rev. Harlan W. Winter officiating. Burial with military rites by Morning Sun American Legion Post 112 will be in Elmwood Cemetery in Morning Sun. Memorials have been established to the Morning Sun Ambulance Service, the Morning Sun Library and Great River Hospice.

      Survivors include his wife; two sons, Bill Stanford of Winfield and Tom Stanford of Bonaparte; a daughter, Sharon Wittrock of Morning Sun; seven grandchildren and one great-grandson; and three sisters, Nadine Frank of Morning Sun, Gail Shumak of Wauconda, Ill., and Noreen Warner of Coal Valley, Ill.

      He was preceded in death by his parents, three brothers and a sister.
