Robert Latimer Thomas, 101, of Columbus Junction, passed away on Monday, June 19, 2023 at Colonial Manor Nursing Home. A funeral service will be held at 10:30 a.m. on Monday, June 26, 2023 at the Columbus Junction United Presbyterian Church. A visitation will be held from 4:00 p.m. until 6:00 p.m. on Sunday, June 25, 2023 at the Snyder & Hollenbaugh Funeral & Cremation Services of Columbus Junction. Interment with military honors will be held at Cambrian Cemetery. A memorial fund has been established at the funeral home in memory of Bob. Bob was born March 29, 1922, in Washington, Iowa, the son of Richard and Leah (Evans) Thomas. He attended Cotter through the 7th grade and graduated from Letts High School in 1941. Robert served in the United States Navy during the Pacific Theatre. He spent two years at the Solomon Islands working as a Hydraulic Mechanic and then transferred to Florida DeLand Naval Air Base until his honorable discharge in 1945. He was united in marriage to Betty May Moore on December 23, 1944, in Columbus Junction.

Robert retired from Rath Packing after 23 years and later worked for Feed Wagon in Columbus City. He was a member of the United Presbyterian Church and the Columbus Junction American Legion and VFW. Bob enjoyed taking several trips into town each day to have a cup of coffee with friends and he always kept his lawn looking great.

He will be deeply missed by his daughters, Roberta (Dick) Todd of Elkhorn, NE, and Nancy (Denny) Brown of Columbus Junction; 3 grandchildren; and 7 great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by parents; his wife in 2002; sister, Bertha Bonnichsen; and infant brother, Russill Thomas.
