Robert Leroy "Bob" Bonar, 76, of Washington, Iowa, passed away on Wednesday, Nov. 13, 2019, at Mercy Hospital in Iowa City.
Celebration of Life services will be held at 2 p.m. Saturday, Nov. 23, at the United Methodist Church in Washington. Calling hours will begin at noon on Friday, Nov. 22, at the Jones & Eden Funeral Home, where the family will receive friends from 5 to 7 p.m. Interment will take place at the Elm Grove Cemetery.
Memorials have been established for the Washington County Fair Association and for Hospice of Washington County.

Bob was born July 1, 1943, in Mount Pleasant, Iowa, the son of Raymond and Helen (Smylie) Bonar. He graduated from Washington High School in 1962 and attended Iowa State University in Ames, Iowa. Bob married Alberta Rathmel in 1963 in Washington, Iowa. They later divorced. He was united in marriage to Linda Shalla Kessler in November of 1997 in Washington, Iowa.
Bob lived most of his life in Washington, Iowa. He was a farmer north of Washington until his retirement in 2017. He also owned a tiling business and trucking business for many years. Bob was a 4-H leader for 18 years, past president of the Washington County Pork Producers and a member of the Iowa Master Pork Producers. He served on the Washington County Fair Board, the Washington County Extension Council and was the past president of the YMCA. Bob was a member of the Iowa International Harvester Collector Chapter 5, Wayland area Antique Tractor Club and the Corn County Cruisers. He also was a member of Washington Masonic Lodge No. 26, Palestine Commandry No. 2 Knights Templar in Iowa City, Iowa, Iowa City York Rite and the Kaaba Temple in Davenport, Iowa.
He is survived by his wife, Linda Bonar of Washington, formerly of Iowa City; daughter, Angi Kauffman, and husband, Robb of Davenport; son, Roger Crawford, and wife, Lisa of Washington; son, Rick Bonar of Washington; son, Robb Bonar, and wife, Trish of San Antonio, Texas; nine grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents.
