Robert Neil Havel, age 92, of Washington, Iowa, passed away Tuesday, April 2, 2024, at the Washington County Hospital following a sudden illness.
Celebration of life services will be held 10:30 a.m. Tuesday, April 9, 2024, at the Jones & Eden Funeral Home with Fr. Bernie Weir officiating. Military honors will be accorded by Washington American Legion Post 29. Calling hours will begin 2:00 p.m. Monday at the Jones & Eden Funeral Home where the family will be present to receive friends from 5:00 until 7:00 p.m. Interment will take place at the Elm Grove Cemetery at a later date. Memorials have been established for local First Responders or the Atrium Village in Hills, Iowa. Online condolences may be sent for Bob’s family at www.jonesfh.com.
Bob was born February 15, 1932, in Washington, Iowa, the son of Roy and Lillian (Vondrasek) Havel. He graduated from Washington High School in 1949. On July 19, 1969, Bob was united in marriage to Patricia Jaeger in Harper, Iowa. He was a life resident of Washington County.
Bob was an over the road truck driver hauling livestock and was a livestock order buyer. He spent many hours and sleepless nights delivering to many places including the Bob Evans Packing Plant and Iowa Pack. Bob was a member of St. James Catholic Church. He served honorably in the United States Army during the Korean War where he was stationed overseas. Bob was an avid Iowa Hawkeyes sports fan and Chicago Cubs fan. In his youth, he enjoyed hunting and fishing. He loved spending time with his granddaughter, Allison, and drawing her pictures.
He is survived by his daughter, Susan Golden and husband Mike of Ainsworth, Iowa; granddaughter, Allison of Ainsworth, Iowa; and brother, LeRoy Havel of Washington, Iowa.
Bob was preceded in death by his parents; wife, Patricia in 2023; sisters-in-law, Colleen Havel, Mary Finders and husband Keith, Delores Paetzold and husband Kenneth and brother-in-law, Paul Jaeger.
