Robert Ottmer Iburg was born March 11, 1929, in York Township, Iowa County, Iowa, the son of Otto and Elsie (Newkirk) Iburg. He was baptized on April 7, 1929, and confirmed on June 13, 1943, all at Immanuel Lutheran Church. Robert served in the United States Army from 1951-1953, during the Korean war. Robert was united in marriage to Elaine Glandorf on April 22, 1955, at the Immanuel Lutheran Church near Williamsburg. To this union they were blessed with four children. Robert farmed in York Township until retiring in 1994. He then took up woodworking. He enjoyed going to craft shows, reading, gardening, playing dartball, horseshoes, bowling, playing games with the grandchildren, but most of all fishing with his family. Robert was a lifelong member of Immanuel Lutheran church, serving on the finance board and as a trustee. Robert died Saturday, July 5, 2025, at the Compass Memorial Healthcare Center in Marengo at the age of 96 years.
He is survived by his wife Elaine; children, Lester (Cindy Dupay) Iburg of White Bear, Minn., Leon Iburg of Williamsburg, Lowell (Pam) Iburg of Marengo and Sylvia (Pat) Ballantyne of Des Moines; 7 grandchildren, Heather (Chadd) Egenberger, Nicole (Nestor) Machuca, Lucas Iburg, Lance (Jenna) Iburg, Ryan (Megan) Iburg, Mitch (Zoe) Iburg and Ben Iburg; 7 great-grandchildren, Tristen Emery, Ronan Emery, Landon Iburg, Oliver Iburg, Westton Egenberger, Piper Iburg and Eren Machuca; and a sister-in-law, Jolene Iburg of Hudson, Wis. He was preceded in death by his parents and 2 brothers, Delmar (Phyllis) Iburg and Kenneth Iburg.
Funeral service was held 10:30 am on Tuesday, July 8, 2025, at Immanuel Lutheran Church near Williamsburg. Burial is at the Immanuel Cemetery. Visitation was held Monday from 4:00 to 7:00 pm at the Powell Funeral Home in Williamsburg. A memorial fund has been established for Immanuel Lutheran Church or Lutheran Interparish School.
