Robert L. "Bob" Swift, age 94, of Washington, Iowa, died Sunday, February 3, 2019 at the Halcyon House in Washington.

Celebration of life services will be held at 1:30 p.m. on Thursday, February 7, 2019 at the Jones & Eden Funeral Home with Pastor Jason Collier officiating. Calling hours will begin noon Thursday at the Jones & Eden Funeral Home where the family will receive friends from 12:30 p.m. until 1:30 p.m. Interment with military honors will be held at Elm Grove Cemetery in Washington. Bob was born June 15, 1924 in Washington County, Iowa, the son of Thomas and Hattie (Hesseltine) Swift. He attended country school and later attended Washington High School. Bob served honorably in the United States Navy-Naval Aviation Unit during WWII. He was united in marriage to F. Jean Ufhiel in April of 1944 in Chula Vista, California.

Bob had resided in Washington County since the late 1940s. He worked as the Deputy Sherriff for Washington County and owned and operated the Willows Supper Club. He later farmed in Washington County. Bob was a pilot with a love for flying and built his own plane with Mark Mosier. He was a 73 year member of the American Legion.

He is survived by his son, Craig Swift and wife Barb and grandson, Abe Swift, all of Washington, IA.

He was preceded in death by his parents; wife in 2009; son, Gary in 1973; brothers, Darrell and Leon Swift; and sister, Eleanor Wolf.
