Robert Vernon Orman, 81, of Bloomfield, died at 8:50 p.m. April 26, 2025 at Bloomfield Care Center.
He was born on April 25, 1944, in Ottumwa, Iowa. He graduated from Fremont High School with the class of 1962.
He served in the National Guard then married Barbara Jean Renfrew at Willard Street United Methodist Church on October 16, 1966. Together they were proud owners of a Century Farm in Wapello County. Bob retired from John Deere Ottumwa Works in 1996 after 30 years. He enjoyed watching his grandchildren and great-grandchildren participate in their many activities, especially showing cattle and other animals.
Other activities he enjoyed were camping with friends, collecting John Deere tractors, toys & other memorabilia, fishing and camping with the grandkids and mushroom hunting. Bob participated in several activities and organizations including Southeast Iowa Angus Association and Iowa Angus Association where he served both as president, American Angus Association, Johnny Poppers, B-Squares Square Dance Club, was a past member of the Agency Lions Club, member of Agency Community Church and active in the men’s group, past president of the Wapello County Fair board & current honorary board member, and Iowa State Fair Camper since 1980 (or longer). He got his start in Angus as a 4-H member and later leader of the Agency Agrinauts 4-H Club.
Bob is survived by his wife, Barbara, three children, David (Leslie) Orman, Kevin (Kim) Orman and Tonya (Terry) Doud; seven grandchildren, Damon Hornaday (Paige Hadley), Megan (Mark) Ver Steegh, Emily Orman (Brady Oberdieck), Tyler (Celsey) Orman, Brittany (Austin) Schrage, Ryan Doud (Kaitlyn Burken) and Zachary Doud (Hailey Pedrick); eight great-grandchildren and one on the way, Brighton Barker, Hadley Barker, Ava Orman, Lincoln Ver Steegh, Kacey Orman, Nolan Ver Steegh, Skyler Orman, Banks Hornaday and Baby Schrage. He is also survived by his sister, Sheryl Austin, and sister-in-law, Ruth Anderson.
He is preceded in death by parents, Vernon & Lela (Rowell) Orman and in-laws, Glen and Bernadina (Sutton) Renfrew; half-brother, Bill (Theresa) Houk, brother-in-law, John Anderson, sister-in-law, Marge (Bill) O’Dell and sister-in-law, Mildred (James) Hopkins.
Visitation will be open after 11 a.m. Thursday, May 1st at Reece Funeral Home with his family present to greet friends from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m. Thursday.
Funeral services will be 10 a.m. Friday, May 2nd at
Reece Funeral Home with Pastor Kelly Peavey officiating. Burial will be in Shaul Cemetery with military honors conducted by O.B. Nelson Post #3 American Legion and Walter B. Schafer Post #775 Veterans of Foreign Wars.
Memorials may be made to Agency Community Church or Southeast Iowa Junior Angus Association.
