Robert W. Hanna
Robert W. Hanna, 67, of Mt. Pleasant, died 2:15 a.m. on Tuesday, Nov. 14, at the Henry County Health Center in Mt. Pleasant.
The funeral service will be 10 a.m. Saturday, Nov. 18, at the Olson-Powell Memorial Chapel with Dr. Edward R. Peterson officiating. Visitation will be noon to 8 p.m. Friday, Nov. 17, at Olson-Powell Memorial Chapel. There will be no family visitation. Burial will be in the Long Creek Cemetery near Danville. Memorials have been established to the Mt. Pleasant Public Library and to Trees Forever.
Mr. Hanna was born March 20, 1933, near Middletown, the son of Chester and Birdie Smith Hanna. He moved to Mt. Pleasant with his parents when he was seven, receiving his formal education and graduating from Mt. Pleasant High School. He married Marjorie J. Martin on April 26, 1952 at Fort Madison. He farmed on his family farm with his father and in 1958 bought a farm where he farmed and lived for the rest of his life. He was a cement finisher and contractor for 48 years and a cement contractor for ten of those years. He worked for H. Eugene Smith Construction for 15 years and Ahren?s Concrete Construction for 11 years, along with various other contractors. He retired in 1998 from Ahren?s Construction.
A member of the First United Methodist Church of Mt. Pleasant, he was also a member of the National Rifle Association and Cement Masons Local #484. He enjoyed the outdoors and activities including hunting, fishing, mushroom hunting, wildlife and gardening. He loved NASCAR racing, woodworking, reading, the Iowa Hawkeyes and the St. Louis Cardinals. He also enjoyed his many friends and socializing with them.
Survivors include his wife; two daughters, Sheila J. and Scott McKenzie and Karen S. Noble, both of Mt. Pleasant; two sons, Robert J. and Nancy Hanna of St. Charles, Mo. and Michael C. and Diane Hanna of Maplewood, Minn.; a brother, Ralph Hanna of Cisco, Texas; a sister, Murrell Morgan of Burlington; ten grandchildren; one great-grandchild and several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents, a sister, a brother, two nephews, one niece and two great-nieces.
