Roberta Cox, 92, of Keosauqua, Iowa, passed away on Feb. 13, 2020, at the Van Buren County Hospital. She was born on Jan. 28, 1928, in rural Van Buren County, to Albert and Viva Mason Stonehouse. Roberta met Wayne Cox while he was on leave from the military. They were married shortly after on May 11, 1946, in Mount Pleasant, Iowa. Together, Wayne and Roberta raised four children on the family farm in Van Buren County, Susan, Robert, Roger and Ronald. Wayne preceded her in death on July 16, 2010.
Roberta was a homemaker and assisted Wayne on the farm. She was a member of the Keosauqua United Methodist Women and American Legion Auxiliary. She enjoyed quilting, sewing and birdwatching. Roberta loved to bake, each year she would bake bread and cakes to enter in the county fair as a friendly competition with her friends. She was a wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother and sister who will be greatly missed by her family.
She is survived by a daughter, Susan (Jon) Cunningham of Cedar Falls, Iowa; three sons, Robert (Danita) of Letts, Iowa, Roger (Melba) Cox of Ottumwa, Iowa, and Ronald (Amy) of Mooresville, Ind.; 16 grandchildren; 21 great-grandchildren; a sister-in-law, Wilma Marsh; and a brother-in-law, Willis Cox.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Albert and Viva Stonehouse; three sisters, Anna Ruth Huffman, Wilma Hoskins and Mary Smith; and two brothers, Richard Stonehouse and Herbert Stonehouse.
Funeral services will be at 10:30 a.m. Wednesday, Feb. 19, at the Keosauqua United Methodist Church. Burial will be at Kilbourne Cemetery in rural Van Buren County. Visitation will begin at 3 p.m. Tuesday, Feb. 18, with family present to greet friends from 5 to 7: p.m. at Pedrick Funeral Home in Keosauqua.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Keosauqua United Methodist Church or Kilbourne Cemetery.
