OELWEIN ? Roberta Eileen Warner, 89, of Oelwein, died Tuesday, May 24, 2016, in Unity Point-Allen Hospital in Waterloo.
Funeral service will be at 10:30 a.m., Saturday, May 28, at Zion Lutheran Church in Oelwein with the Rev. Patricia Shaw officiating. Visitation will be from 3 to 7 p.m., Friday at the Jamison-Schmitz Funeral Home in Oelwein, and for one hour before the service, Saturday at the church. Burial will be at Woodlawn Cemetery in Oelwein. A memorial fund has been established for Zion Lutheran Church and the Oelwein Public Library.
Mrs. Warner was born July 14, 1926, in rural Dundee, the daughter of Carl Henry and Marvelle Mae (Sturm) Vierow. She married Fay Wendell Warner on June 28, 1947, at the Grace Lutheran Church in Fayette.
She graduated from Lamont High School in Lamont in 1943. She earned her B.A. degree in 1963 from Iowa Wesleyan College in Mount Pleasant and received her master?s degree in library science from the University of Iowa in Iowa City. She was a schoolteacher and later a librarian in country schools and in Washington for 39 years. She was a member of Zion Lutheran Church, WELCA and a member of the Quilters Group at Zion Lutheran Church. She was also a charter member of Immanuel Lutheran Church in Washington, a life member of the University of Iowa Alumni Association, a life member of the National Education Association and a life member of the VFW Auxiliary No. 2440 in Independence.
Surviving are one son, R. Craig Warner and wife Patricia of Reno, Nevada; three grandchildren; two great-granddaughters; three step-great-grandchildren; two brothers, Earl Vierow and wife Madalyn of Waverly, and Clifford Vierow and wife Janice of Oelwein; one sister-in-law, Bernadine Granneman of Oelwein; and nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Fay W. Warner, on Dec. 8, 1995; one sister, Louisa Herman; and one brother, Harold Vierow.
