Roderick Harry Bradfield, 89, of Fairfield, died at 8:25 p.m. Sunday, Oct. 20, 2019, at home.

He was born Dec. 8, 1929, in Jefferson Co., Iowa, to Bruce and Pauline Jackson Bradfield. Rod married Vivian Murray on Dec. 24, 1960. She preceded him in death on Jan. 12, 2007.

A graduate of Fairfield High School, he attended Parsons College. Rod was a veteran of the U.S. Army, serving during the Korean War. After his military service, he returned home to farm, farming south of Packwood all of his life.

Surviving is his daughter, Betty Edgington of Monroe; a stepson, Dennis Nichols of Bunnell, Fla.; a granddaughter, Ashley (Chet) Burkett of Prairie City; and a sister, Marylin Fenton of Fairfield.

He was preceded in death by his parents;and three brothers, Billy, Paul and George Bradfield.

His body has been cremated.

Memorial services will be at 10:30 a.m. Saturday at Reece Funeral Home in Ottumwa with Pastor Frosty Van Voorst officiating. Military services will be conducted by Walter B. Schafer Post No. 775 Veterans of Foreign Wars and O.B. Nelson Post No. #3 American Legion. The family will be present one hour before the service.
