Roger Raymond Busa, 76, of Lone Tree, Iowa, died Sunday, March 6, 2022, at the University of Iowa Hosptials and Clinics following a short illness. Celebration of life services will be held at 10 a.m. Thursday, March 10, at Jones & Eden Funeral Home in Washington with Pastor Darren Brown officiating. Calling hours will begin at 2 p.m. Wednesday at the funeral home, where the family will receive friends from 5 to 7 p.m. Interment with military honors will be held at Elm Grove Cemetery in Washington. In lieu of flowers, a general memorial has been established. Services will be live streamed on the Jones & Eden Facebook page. Roger was born June 8, 1945, in Shawano, Wis., the son of Peter Ansalamo and Dorothy (Soyck) Busa. He attended school in Shawano graduating from Shawano High School. Following high school, Roger joined the United States Marines. He served in active duty during Vietnam and was honorably discharged in 1969. After returning from the war, he moved to Iowa and settled in the Cedar Rapids area. He furthered his education at Kirkwood Community College. Roger was united in marriage to Sandy Richardson on Feb. 1, 1975.
Roger and Sandy moved to Lone Tree in 1986. Roger worked as a machinist for Sheller Globe (Leer/IAC) for 43 years, retiring in 2016. He was a member of the VFW, and enjoyed gardening, fishing, fixing and building things, and going to the Riverside Casino. He was an avid "Price is Right" and "Wheel of Fortune" fan and cherished the time he spent with his granddaughters. Roger was a jolly, big hearted, hard working man and all who knew him, loved him.
He is survived by his wife, Sandy Busa of Lone Tree, Iowa; son, Brian Busa and fiancee Shelby of Iowa City, Iowa; daughter, Angela Langstraat and husband Ryan of Washington, Iowa; daughter, Jolynn Pitts and husband Robert of Mount Lake Terrace, Wash.; three granddaughters, Emma and Jillian Langstraat and Kaitlyn Pitts; and one brother, Darwin Busa and wife Yvonne of Fort Pierce, Fla. He is also survived by his beloved cats, Hunt, Bella, Leo and Lex; and his grand pups, Pete, Bear, Charlie and Bronx.
Roger was preceded in death by his parents; infant son, Roger Raymond Busa Jr; and granddaughter, Alexia Lynn Langstraat.
