Roger L. Reed, age 84, of Washington, Iowa, passed away on Tuesday, January 21, 2025, at the Washington County Hospital following a decline in health.
Funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m. on Tuesday, January 28, 2025, at the Jones & Eden Funeral Home with Pastor Darren Brown officiating. The family will be present to receive friends prior to the service, beginning at 9:30 a.m. Interment will take place at the Oregon Township Cemetery in Ainsworth, Iowa. Memorials have been established for the Halcyon House Good Samaritan Fund or Sonshine Ministries. Online condolences may be sent for the family at www.jonesfh.com.
Roger was born July 12, 1940, in Washington, Iowa, the son of Bernard J. and Lola M. (Hartman) Reed. He attended Country School and graduated from Washington High School in 1959. Roger was united in marriage to Connie K. Fox on February 22, 1975, in Riverside, Iowa.
Roger and Connie moved to their family farm northeast of Washington in 1975. Roger worked for Leo Stone Floor Covering from 1959 to 1967, then transitioned to full-time farming while doing part-time carpentry work with his uncle, Ernest Meyer. He enjoyed building wooden toys, which, along with produce from the garden, was sold at the Farmer’s Market. He was proud of their pumpkin patch and was an avid dog lover.
Roger is survived by his brother, David Reed of Washington, Iowa; sister, Bernice Darby of Washington, Iowa; sister, Melinda Lord of Washington, Iowa; brother, Nicholas J. Reed and wife Sue of Washington, Iowa; as well as seven nieces and nephews, and nine great nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents; wife, Connie in 2017; sister, Rosemary Reed; and brothers-in-law, Charles Darby and Bill Lord.
