Ron was born November 23, 1940, in Washington, Iowa, the oldest son of James and Ernestine (Embree) Allison. He attended country school in Washington graduating from Washington High School in 1959. Ron was united in marriage to his high school sweetheart, Dorothy Nelson, on June 24, 1961. They would have celebrated their 62nd wedding anniversary next month.
Ron lived all of his life in Washington County. At an early age Ron had a paper route with the Washington Evening Journal and became a full-time employee as a compositor after high school where he remained employed until his retirement in 1995. Ron and Dorothy had two daughters, Kris and Jacki. They enjoyed several family road trips, where they would often run out of gas as Ron was always testing to see how far the car would go. They also enjoyed playing board games and bike rides together. The Allison family welcomed a foreign exchange student from Quebec, Canada, in the fall of 1980, Josee Lemoine – whom they still keep in contact with.
Ron was a car enthusiast, especially Cadillacs, and was meticulous about his vehicles. He was a member of Grace Community Church and served as the maintenance manager for 18 years. Ron and Dorothy were members of Shirts and Skirts Square Dance Club and the Silver Buckles Line Dancing Club for many years. They also loved dancing the waltz, polka, and two-step with their numerous friends over the years as well as Just Dance with his grandchildren. He was a man of faith, loved listening to his Christian music and enjoyed traveling with his wife, often times to Branson, Missouri, The Badlands, and to Colorado. Ron was a Pepsi fanatic and enjoyed at least one every day.
Popo, as he was affectionately called by all of his grandchildren and great-grandchildren, enjoyed spending time with his family, attending all of his grandchildren’s events and celebrations, birthday parties, and holiday gatherings, playing games, sleepovers, playing dress up including getting his “hair done,” going to the “forest,” brushing his granddaughter’s hair after showers ever so gently in front of the warm fire, eating out at The Frontier with grandsons, trips to the Iowa State Fair, trips to Old Threshers, numerous phone calls using a secret code, and many trips to Dairy Mart – to name a few.
He is survived by his devoted wife, Dorothy, daughters, Kris (David) Moeller and Jacki (Mike) Williams; six grandchildren, Allison (Taylor) McKibbon, Lauren (Joe) Pins, Logan (Arissa) Moeller, Alyk Williams, Grant Williams, and Sergio Regalado, and five great-grandchildren, Grayson, Asher, and Merrick Moeller and Eliana and Faith Pins. He is also survived by his two brothers, Randy Allison and Rudie Allison.
Ron was preceded in death by his parents and two sisters-in-law.
