ROSEMARY (LIECHTY) SHUMAKER

Rosemary (Liechty) Shumaker, 85, of Wayland, passed away Friday, August 13, 2021, at the University of Iowa Hospital as the result of injuries from a fall. A celebration of her life will be held Thursday, August 19, 2021, at 10:30 a.m. at the Wayland Mennonite Church with Pastor Michael Swartzendruber officiating. The service will be available via Livestream at the Beatty Peterseim Facebook Page. Burial will follow at North Hill Cemetery in Wayland. The family will greet friends from 5 to 7 p.m. Wednesday, August 18, 2021, at the Wayland Mennonite Church. A memorial fund has been established for the Wayland Mennonite Church.
Rosemary Shumaker was born January 24, 1936, in Noble, Iowa, the daughter of Emery and Effie (Roth) Liechty. She graduated from Wayland High School in 1954 and attended the Burlington Beauty Academy. On June 10, 1956, she was united in marriage to Richard Shumaker at the Wayland Mennonite Church. Rosemary worked at the Yoder Hatchery for many years and was a beautician at Parkview Home in Wayland. Rosemary was a member of the Wayland Mennonite Church and enjoyed camping, and square dancing and was an excellent cook and baker. She will always be remembered and cherished as the heart and soul of the family, caring for her children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren with a heart full of love.
Survivors include three children, Michael (Carol) Shumaker of Wayland, Pam (Phil) Roth of Burlington and Scott (Misti) Shumaker of Winfield; nine grandchildren' eight great-grandchildren; one great-granddaughter on the way; and one sister-in-law, Gretchen Liechty of Mt. Pleasant.
Preceding Rosemary in death were her parents; her husband, Richard, in 2020; one sister, Shirley Calloway; and two brothers, Max and John Liechty.
