Roy Edward Schumacher, 89, of Davenport, passed away on Thursday, November 21, 2024, at The Davenport Lutheran Home, Davenport, Iowa.
Funeral services will be held at the Runge Mortuary Chapel on Monday, November 25, 2024, at 2:00 pm. Visitation will be one hour prior to the service. A private burial will take place at Davenport Memorial Park.
Roy Edward Schumacher was born April 30, 1935 in Marengo, Iowa to Otto and Emma (Kimm) Schumacher. He graduated from Marengo High School, Marengo, Iowa. He enlisted in the Army in November 1956, and was honorably discharged in November 1958. He married Grace Louise Floerchinger Soedt on November 4, 1960, in Marengo. She preceded him in death on November 27, 2023.
He retired from the Rock Island Arsenal security department in 1999. He and his wife enjoyed camping. In his early years, he enjoyed reading and had a large collection of books. Together they traveled to various locations to attend reunions with the men he served with in the Army. He was a loyal fan of the Chicago Cubs and the Iowa Hawkeyes.
Roy is survived by sons, Gary (Nancy) Soedt, Randy (Judy) Soedt, Ken (Ruth) Soedt, and Doug Schumacher; grandchildren, Ryan (Kristina) Soedt, Danielle (Pablo) Capistrano, Erin (Matthew Parise) Soedt, Mackenzie (Michael) DeNardis, Dana Soedt and Gena Soedt; great-grandchildren, Lexi (Adam) Quested, Logan Soedt, Archer DeNardis, Truman DeNardis, Milo Capistrano, Marcela Capistrano, Alanah Boley, and Xavier Lira; and great-great-grandchild, Bentley Quested. He is also survived by his sister, Ruth Hahn, of Cedar Rapids, Iowa, a brother-in-law, George Humphrey of Omaha, Nebraska, and several nieces and nephews.
In addition to his wife and parents, he was preceded by a brother, Robert Schumacher, sisters, Hazel Baber, Betty Humphrey, and brother-in-law, Conrad Hahn.
Memorials may be made to the Q.C. Veteran Outreach Center, Davenport, or Trinity Lutheran Church, Davenport, where he was a long-time member. Online condolences may be shared at www.rungemortuary.com.
