Roy Earl Ridgeway, 96, of Keosauqua died at 2:20 a.m. Tuesday, Feb. 1, 2000, at Van Buren County Hospital in Keosauqua.
The funeral service will be at 10 a.m. Friday, Feb. 4, 2000, at Pedrick Funeral Home in Keosauqua with the Rev. Bill Shewmaker officiating. Burial will be in Vernon Cemetery. Visitation will begin at 9 a.m. Thursday at Pedrick Funeral Home with family present from 6 to 8 p.m. Memorials have been established to Keosauqua Christian Church or First Christian Church in Fairfield. They may be left at the funeral home.
Mr. Ridgeway was born Jan. 29, 1904, in Mt. Pleasant, the son of Thomas Edgar and Alta Eldora Loving Ridgeway. He married Marguerite Louis St. Clair Allard on Oct. 15, 1938, in Ottumwa. He grew up in Hillsboro, graduated from Hillsboro High School, and owned and operated Ridgeway Roofing Co. in Fairfield until his retirement in 1969, when he moved to Vernon. The Ridgeways moved to Country Lane Apartments in Keosauqua in July 1999. He was a member of Keosauqua Christian Church and the Fraternal Order of Eagles in Fairfield. He was an exceptional storyteller who loved to hunt and fish.
Survivors include his wife of Keosauqua; two sons, Tom Ridgeway of Anamosa and Gary Ridgeway of Iowa City; five daughters, Leota Boyce of Camdenton, Mo., Treva Hawbaker of Renville, Minn., Louisa McCormick of Milan, Ill., Betty Leslie of Aledo, Ill., and Sharon Conner of Port Byron, Ill.; 29 grandchildren; 38 great-grandchildren; and seven great-great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents; a son, Rex; a sister, Wilda Rupp; and a brother, Vern.
