RUSSELL E. VAN DORNUM

Russell E. Van Dornum, 91, of Hubbard, Iowa, passed away Wednesday, Oct. 9, 2019, at the Hubbard Care Center in Hubbard, Iowa.
Funeral services for Russell Van Dornum were held at 2 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 12, at the Salem United Methodist Church in Hubbard. Burial was followed in Hubbard Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be directed to Salem United Methodist Church, Hubbard, IA 50122.

Russell Ervin Van Dornum was born Aug. 4, 1928, in Steamboat Rock, Iowa, the son of Albert and Helen (Tholen) Van Dornum.
In 1944, he was baptized at the First Baptist Church in Steamboat Rock by the Rev. Howard Johnson.
Russell attended grade school and high school at the Steamboat Rock School.
Russell was drafted into the U.S. Army on Jan. 12, 1951. He served in the Korean War and was overseas from June 1951 until April 1952 as a machine gun operator.
On March 25, 1953, Russell married Joan Lehmeier at the Salem United Methodist Church in Hubbard, Iowa. They lived on the Lehmeier family farm that has been in the Lehmeier family since 1888. Russell farmed the farm until he retired and moved into Hubbard, Iowa
Russell served on the ASCA Board. He was a member of American Legion Post 4 in Hubbard and Salem United Methodist Church, where he was on various church boards.
Russell enjoyed fishing trips to Canada and Minnesota. He was an avid New York Yankees fan. He loved to pick on his grandkids.
He is survived by his wife, Joan of Hubbard, Iowa; two daughters, Cheryl (David) Duncan and of Hubbard, Iowa, and Kathy (Curt) Alexander of Estero, Fla.; four grandchildren, Jared (Marie) Neubauer, Angie (Tyler) Rodgers, Abby (Nate) Burden and Aric (Alissa) Alexander; two step-grandchildren, Angie Duncan and Jay (Sara) Duncan; 10 great-grandchildren, Jaxon and Brynn Neubauer, Ganon, Myar and Gradon Rodgers, Dylan, Ryker and Tessa Burden, and Abel and Avalynn Alexander; one niece Diane Rash; along with many friends.
Russell was preceded in death by his parents; sister, Betty Frerichs; twin siblings, Lois and Louis Van Dornum; and one nephew, Douglas Frerichs.
