Russell Robert Newell

      COLUMBUS JUNCTION - Russell Robert Newell, 84, of Columbus Junction, died Monday, Oct. 10, 2005, at his home in Columbus Junction.

      Graveside services will begin at 10:30 a.m. Saturday, Oct. 15, at Indian Creek Cemetery with the Rev. David Cone officiating. Military rites will be accorded by Allen Wright Hanft American Legion Post No. 100. Visitation will be Friday, Oct. 14, from 4 to 7 p.m. at Stacy-Lewis Funeral Home in Columbus Junction. Memorials have been established for the Columbus Community Public Library, the Louisa County Historical Society and the Columbus Community Heritage Center.

      Mr. Newell was born Aug. 23, 1921, in Louisa County to Hugh Robson and Sarah Matilda (Shellabarger) Newell. He married Margaret Carper on Dec. 10, 1946, in Denver, Colo. She preceded him in death in 1984. He married Gloria Hafner on April 21, 1990, married in Benton, Ark.
